The Soviet Union's distant nephew, reborn out of a hatred for the bourgeois and an eye for the stars. Still afflicted by internal conflict and some factions seeking to keep the capitalistic ideals alive.
Russia, strained by its stalled invasion of Ukraine, was already on edge before WWIII began. Having been able to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses by exploiting a period of political unwillingness to supply the defending nation, the Russian Army managed to push to the borders of Europe and, fanatically motivated by such victory, ultimately declared war on Poland, Romania, the Baltic states, and by consequence, the EU as a whole. Wholly unprepared to confront several professional armies, Russia was pushed all the way back to its borders. Upon news that a Dutch battalion had taken control of Kursk, the order to launch all nuclear warheads was sent. Although roughly 35% of launch sites refused the order, the launches still occurred. This would, however, mark a point of no return.
The entirety of the Russian Armed Forces, if not for minimal resistance by fervently loyal officers, turned around and marched on the Kremlin, motivated by years of war, thousands of deaths and what was clearly very little care by their commanding officers. They ousted the president and instituted a temporary military leadership that, thanks to a charismatic, down to earth politician, swiftly transformed into a worker-led communist republic: the United Russian Republics.
It recognizes Russian as its official language, though other languages are protected by a recent law. Rights and social matters have received fundamental protection under the new socialist government, affected by a wave of neo-feminist and progressive ideals. As a consequence of the sudden switch to a socialist state, the URR is plagued by a fervent anti-capitalist stance that makes interaction with other nations difficult, and keeps technology behind.
The URR, despite having "lost" the war, remained largely intact. Though border cities had been sieged by European armies and Moscow had taken a hit during the Russian Army's insurrection, the country was mostly untouched by the same destruction that had befallen Europe and America, if not for a limited number of retaliatory strikes on remote missile silos. As such, Russia mostly remains the same as before: a vast, cold place populated by high-rise apartment blocks and iced-over roads. The new government has made some improvements, and nowadays major Russian cities have become more colorful and modern, with an eye to tradition. Classical Soviet-era posters and Russian historical arts have been embedded in daily life, in murals and subway stations. Statues to cosmonauts and explorers have been erected, and a new golden age has begun for the Republics.
The United Russian Republics Navy, also named the Red Fleet, is a powerful tool in the spread of communist ideas, supported by the URR Marines. The URRN is mostly focused on displays of force and overwhelming firepower, seeking to drown out enemy shields with raw lead and preferring older weaponry to newer energy-based systems. Given the state of the URR following the war, it only has one fleet, the 1st Cosmonautica Fleet of the United Russian Republics Navy, headed by the Orca-class Battlecarrier VL-1 (Vladimir Lenin 1).
